Our Lady Peace
http://www.ourladypeace.com | http://www.ourladypeace.net

When Mark Van Doren, the American poet and teacher, wrote his famous work, "Our Lady Peace" in 1943, he couldn't have imagined the concept of rock'n'roll, let alone that a Canadian rock group would adopt his title for their name. Consisting of Raine Maida, Duncan Coutts, Jeremy Taggart and Steve Mazur, Our Lady Peace is one of the most successful bands in Canada today. The band has sold over 5 million albums worldwide, won four JUNO Awards and ten Much Music Video Awards - one of the most MMVA's ever awarded to any artist or group. The band’s latest album “Curve” debuted in the Top 10 of Canada’s national album sales chart. The album’s first single, “Heavyweight” is currently charted at #1 on Canada’s Mainstream Rock radio airplay chart.

The band was also involved in the Occupy movement and lent their track Fight The Good Fight to the official Occupy Soundtrack.

Blackie Jackett Jr.

Blackie Jackett, Jr. isn't a person; it's a band. And not just any band: it's the side project of James Black and Rick Jackett, erstwhile guitarists for alternative rock favorites Finger Eleven.

In the closing dates of a major tour, James and Rick with guitars in hand began bouncing ideas off each other at the back of the Finger Eleven bus. In a call and answer type writing method, they built their songs with ease and felt that the project would have a successful future.

Eschewing the slick sound of Nashville pop in favor of the time-honored tunesmithing of Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Lefty Frizzell, and others, the members of Blackie Jackett, Jr. plan to expand from their local performances and hit the road to show what they've learned through their songwriting and recording experience.

Everything about Incura appears to be as unique as their name, and the deeper you dig, the more you realize how true this sentiment really is. Incura’s music is virtually unclassifiable. Genre-hopping across many different styles of hard rock and clearly inspired by the love of theatre. Incura sets a rare musical scene, one that is so compelling it lures you deeper and deeper with each repeated listen. Their message is simple; be a leader not a follower. Be your own person. USS

Their sound is as hard to describe as their name is to say. Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker, better known as USS, are like a campfire after-party with a jungle-rave vibe, progressively two-stepping their way to a dance folk cuddle. Pure intention is the scope they aim through, eliciting dance-floor eruptions is what they're known for. Science rap on breakbeat tracks anyone?

The Balconies
http://thebalconies.ca

The Balconies stand before you – teeth barred, eyelashes batting, clothing and hair drenched in sweat. In the blink of an eye, the trio has grown from a humble indie pop band to a leather-clad three-headed rock and roll monster, punctuated by 80s hair metal flair. Jacquie is at the helm, backed by the rippling rhythms of Liam and Stephen, and The Balconies continue to steamroll unsuspecting crowds throughout continental North America – doing it heavier, sweatier, and more aggressively than their peers (go ahead, try to outdo Jacquie’s deep rock lunges and swirling hair). The trio is hard at work on their upcoming full-length album with legendary producer Arnold Lanni (Finger Eleven, Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace). So, if you fancy a riot of gargantuan rhythmic proportions, swing by. Oh…and be prepared – this will get loud.

These Kids Wear Crowns
http://www.thesekidswearcrowns.com/ | http://thesekidswearcrowns.tumblr.com/

On Jumpstart, Chilliwack, BC party core band These Kids Wear Crowns keep the energy going with big, boisterous sing-along electro dance-pop songs, as catchy and engaging as last year’s breakthrough single, “Break It Up.”

It’s the kind of album so big and infectious, it needs to be shared — blasted in the clubs, from car stereos, at beach parties, anywhere masses of people congregate and can dance, jump up and down, and shout out the lyrics. Their music is an aural energy drink, a strong-arm of happy friends yanking you to join in the fun. These Kids Wear Crowns intended it to be that way.

It’s understandable why. The albums lyrics have a sense of zoom, an "I’m-on-my-way" determination that epitomizes These Kids Wear Crowns’ original mind-set and resulting career trajectory. The band's singles 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' and ' Jumpstart have both reached gold status in Canada and 'Jumpstart' has earned Platinum status in Australia.

Ben Caplan
http://bencaplan.ca/

Rugged, raspy, and roaring with charisma, Halifax’s Ben Caplan is to folklore what smoke is to bourbon. Perfectly coupled. Ben’s songwriting is as bold in range as it is in ferocity. Fueled by a quality of melodrama and powerful lyricism, it’s the romance and the manhood crashing with his voice that gives Caplan a truly innovative and experimental artistry. A sound that bridges the gap between controlled composition and unruly passion.

Caplan’s tours have extended throughout the Commonwealth, the rhapsodic energy in his live show an elegant cacophony gaining attention around the world. Breaking between guitar, banjo, piano, and melodica, Caplan’s stage show is almost reminiscent of a burly and bearded Freddy Mercury; a raging, strong, and exploratory songwriter, it’s the blues in his soul, and the heart in your chest pounding as one that makes Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers an act not to be missed.
